Article summary

Whatfix displays content such as Smart Tips, Beacons on top of the underlying application. To do this, Whatfix uses different techniques to ensure that the content is positioned correctly. These techniques are dependent on how the underlying application is configured. When the entire body of a web page or application is set to have a relative position, the positioning of Whatfix content such as Smart Tips, Beacons, and more may become incorrect. This issue does not occur if only individual elements inside the body are set to relative positioning.

What is Relative Positioning?

Relative positioning is a way to arrange elements on a web page. Consider having a room and you decide to place a table two feet to the right of where it usually stands. The table’s new position is relative to its original position.

Now, when the entire body of a web page (think of it as the whole room) is set to relative positioning, some parts of the Whatfix content might not show up where they should. They might look out of place or misaligned. This is because the elements that the content was supposed to latch onto might no longer be at the same exact position.

If only the individual elements inside the body are set to a relative position, the issue does not occur. Whatfix content appears in the correct position because the body itself is not set to a relative position.

If setting the entire body to a relative position is necessary, enable the Whatfix positioning adjustment technical configuration. This ensures that Whatfix content appears as intended even when the body is set to a relative position. By enabling this configuration, all Whatfix content is correctly positioned, avoiding any issues related to the relative position setting on the body element.
