# Create a Self Help Segment

Self Help segments enable the display of different content to various user groups across multiple pages. For example, your segments can be configured to show different content on your application's home page and FAQs page. Additionally, multiple segments can appear on the same page to provide tailored content for different types of end users. For example, administrators might view different content than basic users. These configurations can be made using a segment's [Visibility Rules](/studio/docs/visibility-and-display-rule-conditions-1).

A Self Help segment contains:

- A list of content shown to end users.
- A set of **Visibility Rules** that determine where and to whom the segment will show on the application.
- A **Search Scope** that determines what content shows up in the search results of your segment.

Create a segment in Improved Self Help

Info:

Improved Self Help is a Beta feature. To enable Improved Self Help on your dashboard, contact [support@whatfix.com](mailto:support@whatfix.com?subject=Enable%20Improved%20Self%20Help&body=Hi%20team%2C%0A%0APlease%20enable%20Improved%20Self%20Help%20for%20our%20Dashboard%0AENT%20ID%3A%0A%0ARegards%2C). Improved Self Help provides an enhanced and revamped end-user experience of the Self Help widget. Once enabled, end users see Improved Self Help instead of the Self Help widget.

Improved Self Help appears on the application wherever your Self Help segments are configured to show according to their Visibility Rules. The content listing and search results of the Self Help segments appear in the **Explorer** component of Improved Self Help.

![apphub_explorer.png](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/apphub_explorer.png)

### Default Segment

By default, a **Default Segment** for Self Help is created in the Draft stage of your Whatfix Guidance dashboard.

- The segment is configured to contain all the content on your dashboard.
- The segment does not have any Visibility Rules, enabling it to show everywhere and for everyone on the application.

Create multiple Self Help segments and show different content in Explorer on different pages or for different users of the application by appropriately configuring each segment's Visibility Rules.

---

Use the following steps to create and configure an Improved Self Help segment:

#### Step 1: Create an Improved Self Help segment from the dashboard

1. On the Whatfix Guidance dashboard, click **Widgets**. ![ia_left_nav_widgets2](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/ia_left_nav_widgets%282%29.png)
2. Click **All widgets**. ![ia_widgets_all_widgets1](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/ia_widgets_all_widgets%281%29.png)
3. Click **Create widget**. ![CLM_DB_CreateWidget2](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/CLM_DB_CreateWidget%282%29.png)

1. Click **Self Help**. ![clm_db_click_self_help](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/clm_db_click_self_help.png)
2. Name your Self Help segment. ![sh_name_segment.png](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/sh_name_segment.png)

#### Step 2: Add content to your segment

There are several ways to add content to your Self Help segment. For more information, see [Add or remove content from Explorer](/studio/docs/add-content-to-a-self-help-segment). One way to add content to your segment is to enable the **Add all existing and future content items** toggle, which ensures all the content on your dashboard is present in the segment at all times.

![enable_all_content_toggle_sh.png](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/enable_all_content_toggle_sh.png)

Info:

This toggle is enabled by default in the **Default Segment**.

Only the first 20 pieces of content added to your segment are visible to your end users. The list of content visible to end users is called the **default listing**. To access the remaining content, end users can search for them.

Info:

- To configure the content count in the default listing, contact [support@whatfix.com](mailto:support@whatfix.com?subject=Configure%20the%20count%20of%20content%20in%20the%20default%20listing&body=Hi%20team%2C%0A%0APlease%20change%20the%20count%20of%20content%20in%20the%20default%20listings%20of%20my%20Self%20Help%20segments%20to%20____.%0A%0AENT%20ID%3A%0A%0ARegards%2C).
- Once you enable Improved Self Help, content from your existing Self Help segments shows in the Explorer component of Improved Self Help instead of the Self Help widget.

#### Step 3: Set the Visibility Rules for your segment

The Visibility Rules of your segment determine where and for whom the segment is displayed. By default, your segment does not have any Visibility Rules and is shown everywhere and to everyone on your application.

![sh_vis_rules.png](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/sh_vis_rules.png)

For more information, see [Visibility and Display Rule conditions](/studio/docs/visibility-and-display-rule-conditions-1).

#### Step 4: Set the Search Scope of your segment

The Search Scope of your segment determines what content is shown in the search results of the segment. There are two Search Scope options:

- **All Flows**: Includes all content on your dashboard. This option is set by default.
- **Tags**: Restricts what content shows in the search results of the segment using tags.

![sh_search_scope.png](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/sh_search_scope.png)

For more information, see [Search Scope](/studio/docs/search-scope).

#### Step 5: Save and preview your segment

Once you've finished configuring your Self Help segment, click **Save**. You can preview how your segment will look using [Preview mode](/studio/docs/preview-apphub) on Studio. While previewing, ensure that you are on the right page of your application and that you have a role suitable to see the segment, as defined in the segment's Visibility Rules.

#### Step 6: Publish the segment

For your segment to be visible to your end users, it must be in the Production stage of the dashboard. For more information about pushing widgets to production, see [Publish Whatfix content and widgets to Production](/studio/docs/pushing-whatfix-content-to-production).
