# Auto reselect: Automate element reselection after application updates

> [!WARNING]
> Note:
>
> - Auto reselect is a Beta feature. Contact [support@whatfix.com](mailto:support@whatfix.com?subject=Enable%20Auto-reselection%20of%20Elements&body=Team%2C%20kindly%20enable%20Auto-reselection%20of%20Elements%20for%20the%20following%20ENT%3A) to enable it.
> - Auto reselect works for all content types that require element selection, such as Flow steps, Smart Tips, Beacons, and more.

When an application is updated, the underlying element structure can change even if the UI appears the same. As a result, Whatfix content, such as Flows, Smart Tips, and more, can lose their element references and stop working correctly.

Previously, fixing this required content authors to:

- Open each impacted content
- Test every step
- Manually reselect elements one by one

This process can take around 4 to 5 hours per app change, depending on the number of affected steps.

**Auto Reselect** eliminates this manual effort. With a single click, Whatfix automatically navigates through each step in your content, identifies the target elements, and reselects them.

What previously took hours can now be done in minutes.

#### How does Auto reselect work?

When you trigger Auto Reselect on a content, Whatfix Studio opens on your underlying application and begins reselecting elements automatically. It navigates between steps, fills in required inputs where possible, and pauses only when user action is required, for example, to confirm user inputs or save the content.

Auto Reselect supports two modes:

- **Standard mode:** Uses traditional selector-matching to re-identify elements step by step.
- **AI-powered mode:** Uses vision AI to detect and heal element detection failures during the reselection process.

> [!WARNING]
> Note:
>
> The AI-powered mode requires explicit customer consent before it can be enabled. Contact [support@whatfix.com](mailto:support@whatfix.com) to learn more.

Once the reselection process is complete, Whatfix pauses and prompts you to review and save the content.

**Example use case:**

Consider that you created a multi-step onboarding Flow for new Salesforce users that guides them through creating their first Opportunity. After a Salesforce release, the Flow starts failing because the element selectors for several steps have changed. Instead of manually fixing each step, you can use Auto reselect to update the entire Flow in one go.

Follow the steps to auto reselect elements for your content:

1. On the Whatfix Guidance dashboard, click **Content**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/image-ER9GP16A.png)
2. Click **Flows**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/image-QQ4YJW7Y.png)
3. Hover your cursor over the Flow you want to update, and then click the **Edit** icon. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/image-MTQADOE9.png)
