# Survey Best Practices

### General best practices

**Maintain clarity and conciseness**

Do: Limit the number of questions and the content brief to respect the end users’ time. It can also result in a higher completion rate of Surveys.

Avoid: Using long verbose sentences when a shorter one is better.

**Write effective End Messages**

Do: Customize the End Message to provide a clear **Success Message**or **Failure Message** (for quiz templates).

Avoid: Neglecting to set up the End Message as that can confuse the user about the Survey's outcome.

**Use **Copy** feature to arrange the questions and manage conditions**

Do: Use the **Copy** feature to duplicate an existing question and modify it slightly for efficiency. Plan your question order and branching logic before adding conditions to prevent accidental deletion.

Avoid: Creating similar questions from scratch. Rearranging or deleting a question with an attached condition may delete all the associated conditions in the Survey.

**Allow anonymous responses to avoid user data collection**

Do: Enable the **Allow anonymous responses** toggle under the **CONTROL**section to avoid collecting user data.

Avoid: Failing to check the Allow anonymous responses setting if user privacy or compliance is a concern.

### **B****est practices based on question types**

**Single choice questions**

Do: Use single choice when the user must select only one option (for example, gender selection).

Avoid: Using single choice for questions that might require multiple selections.

**Multiple choice questions**

Do: Use multiple choice when the Survey enables users to select one or more options.

Avoid: Using multiple choice when a single, definitive response is required. ![Multiple choice questions in surveys](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/Studio_surveys_multiple%20choice.png)

**Opinion scale**

Do: Use opinion scale to enable users to choose their experience, typically using a 5-point or 7-point scale.

Avoid: Using opinion scale vague labels. Clearly define the start and end labels (for example, "Strongly agree" to "Strongly disagree").

**NPS**

Do: Use NPS specifically to measure user satisfaction using the standard rating scale.

Avoid: Altering the standard NPS scale or context.

**Star rating**

Do: Use star rating for quick, visual ratings on a 5-point scale.

Avoid: Using star rating for complex questions that require open-ended text.
