Updating Language Files

Each time you have changes to your default language content, you need to update the language files for all supported languages. Contact your respective CSM if you have questions about making an update.
To add a new language.

  1. On the Whatfix Dashboard, under Settings, navigate to Languages.

    1. On the top right, click the Settings icon.


    2. Click Languages.


    You need to be an Account Manager to add new languages. For more information on roles and permissions, see Whatfix User Roles.
  2. Click Add Languages.


  3. Select the new language that you want to add and then click the Add button.


    Once you add the languages supported by your application, they are listed in the Languages table.
  4. Select the check box next to the newly added language and then click the Download Selected link.


  5. Click Download.


    • The language files can be downloaded individually or as a bulk. It gets download as a "zip file" containing individual language (.properties) files. Use a text editor like Sublime Text or to open these files.
    • When you download and extract the files, there are two folders. The Delta folder contains only the content that needs translation (changes to the default content) while the Full Folder has all the available content.
    • Each language has an associated properties file.
    • The zip file contains the text content in the default language and can be shared with your translation team.
    • Ensure that you do not change the name of the properties file while uploading it back after translation.
    • Once the translation is done, the file needs to be zipped as only zip files are accepted for upload. If you have updated only the Delta file, then only the Delta properties file can be zipped and upoaded.

  6. Once the zip file containing the translated content is ready, select the desired language using the checkbox and then click the Upload button.


  7. On the Choose file to upload pop up, elect the zip file and then click Upload.


  8. Now Whatfix needs to about the language code that by a user on your application. See Enable Whatfix to detect the language of your application for detail instruction on how to enable Whatfix to detect the selected language in your application.
