# When do Whatfix Updates happen?

Whatfix continuously improves its product to meet users' needs and provide an exceptional experience. Here’s how Whatfix manages updates:

#### Whatfix Releases

### Maintenance Releases

**Frequency**: Daily

**Schedule**: Monday to Friday

**Purpose**: These updates include bug fixes, performance improvements, and minor enhancements. These updates are crucial for maintaining smooth software operation and addressing issues promptly.

### Product Feature Releases

**Frequency**: Once every 2 weeks

**Schedule**: On Wednesdays

**Purpose**: These updates introduce new features and significant improvements. They are customer-facing, meaning the changes and new functionalities are visible and usable by all users. These releases aim to enhance user experience and provide valuable new capabilities.

#### Update Distribution and Requirements

### **How do you receive updates?**

Updates are not automatically available. You need to perform a [Push to Production](/studio/docs/pushing-whatfix-content-to-production) to accept the new release.

- This is only applicable to end-user widgets such as Self Help, Tasklist, and more.
- For the Dashboard and Studio, Whatfix releases are automatically updated for all customers.

**Prerequisites:**

No specific prerequisites exist for receiving updates, but the method of receiving updates differs based on the deployment option.

****What are the different methods for receiving updates?****

- #### **Cloud Deployment:**
  - End-User Widgets: You need to perform **Push to Production** to accept new releases.
  - Dashboard and Studio: Releases are automatically updated for all users.
- #### **Self-Hosted Deployment:**
  - End-User Widgets:
    - Using **Push to Production**, which pushes the package to AWS or Azure based on your deployment settings.
    - Using Production Package. For more information, see [Export Production Package for Self Hosted Deployment](/studio/docs/enable-multi-format-content-export).
  - Dashboard and Studio: Releases are automatically updated for all users.
- #### **On-Premise Deployment:**
  - Releases are scheduled as per your convenience, typically a quarterly release update. The last stable release is updated to your on-premise instance.
  - End-User Widgets: You need to perform **Push to Production** to receive the update.
  - Dashboard and Studio: Releases are automatically updated once the on-premise setup is upgraded.
