Each Flow follows the same sequence as the captured Mirror Workflow. ### What is Auto Flow Creation? Whatfix enables you to automatically create and maintain Flows in sync with your Mirror Workflows using Auto Flow Creation. When you capture a Mirror Workflow, Whatfix automatically creates an associated Flow and provides a description for each step. For example, you can capture a new employee onboarding process as a Mirror Workflow and Whatfix automatically creates a matching Flow that you can review and publish for your learners. For more information, see [Auto Create a Flow](/mirror/docs/auto-create-a-flow). ### How Auto Flow Creation Works When you create a Mirror Workflow using Whatfix Studio, Whatfix selects the **Create guidance flow for the Workflow** checkbox by default. Whatfix then creates a Flow that replicates the captured Workflow step for step. Each Flow step receives an auto-generated description based on the content of the corresponding Mirror Screen, reducing the overall effort to create a guided experience for your learner. Additionally, Whatfix sets the source URL of the Flow to the **Draft** stage URL of the Mirror Workflow. As the Mirror Workflow moves across dashboard stages, Whatfix automatically updates the Flow's source URL to match the required stage, so you do not have to update it manually. For more information, [Understand Whatfix Dashboard Stages](/studio/docs/understanding-whatfix-stages) and [Stage Agnostic Mirror URLs](/mirror/docs/stage-agnostic-mirror-urls). > [!WARNING] > Note: > > If you clear the **Create guidance flow for the Workflow** checkbox before you create a Mirror Workflow, Whatfix does not create an associated Flow. > > ![Create guidance flow for the Workflow checkbox cleared in Whatfix Studio](https://cdn.document360.io/a268766e-d74d-4619-9613-e2472f809ffb/Images/Documentation/Whatfix_Studio_Auto_Flow_Creation_Unchecked.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T11%3A57%3A04Z&se=2026-10-29T12%3A57%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=75o8CGADa%2FsdbfNOhCktB8OwKJTJYvUBIZM3zAhCKds%3D) ### Mirror and Flow Synchronization By default, a Mirror Workflow and its auto-created Flow stay in sync with each other. How Whatfix syncs an update depends on whether you edit the Mirror Workflow or the Flow. Expand the following accordions for more details: ****Adding a Mirror Screen to a Mirror Workflow**** When you add a new Mirror Screen to a Mirror Workflow, Whatfix creates a corresponding step in the auto-created Flow at the same position. If you add a screen after all existing screens, the new step appears at the end of the Flow. Similarly. if you insert the screen between two existing screens, Whatfix inserts the new step between the corresponding Flow steps and renumbers all subsequent steps. For example, if a Workflow has 5 screens and you insert a new screen after screen 2, a new step appears after step 2 of the auto-created Flow, and Whatfix renumbers the subsequent steps so that the former step 3 becomes step 4. ****Deleting a Mirror Screen from a Mirror Workflow**** When you delete a Mirror Screen from a Mirror Workflow, Whatfix deletes every Flow step mapped to that Mirror Screen from the auto-created Flow. Whatfix then renumbers the remaining steps of the auto-created Flow. For example, a Workflow has 5 screens, and screen 3 contains two Flow steps. When you delete screen 3, Whatfix removes both of its Flow steps from the auto-created Flow. The steps for screens 4 and 5 are then repositioned to follow the steps for screen 2. ****Adding a Flow step to an auto-created Flow**** When you edit an auto-created Flow using **Launch live edit**, Whatfix opens the Mirror Workflow in a new tab by default. When you add a Flow step, Whatfix updates the Mirror Workflow to match. Where you capture the new step determines whether Whatfix also captures a new Mirror Screen: - **On the Mirror Workflow:** When you capture a UI element, such as an input field or a text box, Whatfix adds a Flow step on the current Mirror Screen. Whatfix does not capture a new Mirror Screen. This enables you to add multiple Flow steps on the same Mirror Screen. - **On the application:** When you capture a UI element on the application, Whatfix captures a new Mirror Screen and adds it to the Mirror Workflow with the corresponding Flow step. For example, a Mirror Screen shows a form with three input fields. You can use **Launch live edit** on the Mirror Workflow and capture each input field as its own Flow step. The Flow then contains three steps on that Mirror Screen, and the Mirror Workflow still contains a single screen for the form. For more information, see [Edit an Auto-Created Flow](/mirror/docs/edit-an-auto-created-flow). ****Deleting a Flow step from an auto-created Flow**** When you delete a Flow step and save the Flow, the Flow step no longer appears on the Mirror Workflow. Whatfix does not delete the corresponding Mirror Screen, which remains in the Mirror Workflow as is. > [!NOTE] > Info: > > You can delete a Flow step from an auto-created Flow on the [Whatfix Guidance Dashboard](/studio/docs/overview-of-the-whatfix-dashboard) or on [Whatfix Studio](/studio/docs/what-has-changed-on-studio). For example, a Mirror Screen contains three Flow steps, one for each input field on a form. When you delete the step for one input field, the other two steps remain on the Mirror Screen. The Mirror Screen itself does not change. > [!WARNING] > Note: > > To remove a Mirror Screen along with its Flow steps, delete the Mirror Screen from the Mirror Workflow. For more information, see [Delete a Mirror Screen](/mirror/docs/delete-a-mirror-screen). For more information, see [Edit an Auto-Created Flow](/mirror/docs/edit-an-auto-created-flow). ****Stage movement between a Mirror Workflow and its auto-created Flow**** When you move a Mirror Workflow from **Draft** to **Ready** or from **Ready** to **Production**, the auto-created Flow automatically moves to the same stage at the same time. This also applies to actions such as **Unpublish** and **Edit in Draft** on the Mirror Workflow. For example, publishing a Mirror Workflow to the **Production** stage also publishes its auto-created Flow to **Production**. For more information, see [Edit an Auto-Created Flow](/mirror/docs/edit-an-auto-created-flow). ### Causes of Sync Breaks A Mirror Workflow goes out of sync with its associated Flow when any of the following conditions occurs. Once a Flow goes out of sync, updates to the Mirror Workflow no longer apply to the Flow, the two no longer move across stages together, and you cannot restore the sync. - **Move the auto-created Flow:** When you move the Flow to a different stage, the Mirror Workflow does not move with the Flow across dashboard stages, and the sync between them breaks. - **Use Edit in Draft on the auto-created Flow:** When you use **Edit in Draft** on an auto-created Flow in the **Production** stage, Whatfix creates a new version of the Flow in the **Draft** stage. This action does not create a new version of the Mirror Workflow, so the sync between the Flow and Workflow breaks. To keep them in sync, use **Edit in Draft** on the Mirror Workflow instead. - **Overwrite a version in the Draft stage:** If a Mirror Workflow in the Production stage already has a version in the Draft stage, Whatfix prompts you to overwrite that version when you use **Edit in Draft**. This action breaks the sync between the Mirror Workflow and its auto-created Flow. For example, if you use **Edit in Draft** on an auto-created Flow in the **Production** stage, the sync between the Mirror Workflow and the Flow breaks. As a result, if you later add a Mirror Screen to the Mirror Workflow, Whatfix does not add a corresponding step to the Flow. > [!NOTE] > Info: > > - When you duplicate a Mirror Workflow that has an auto-created Flow, Whatfix does not duplicate the Flow. > - Similarly, when you duplicate a Flow that is in sync with a Mirror Workflow, Whatfix does not duplicate the Mirror Workflow, and it does not carry over the sync. Whatfix Mirror is an application simulation software that provides an immersive and interactive simulation of any web application. A sequence of captured mirror screens representing a specific user journey or process (e.g., "How to create a Lead in Salesforce?"). Whatfix Studio is a browser plug-in that enables you to create various types of Whatfix content, such as Flows, Smart Tips, Beacons, and so on. The plug-in can be installed on Google Chrome and the new Microsoft Edge browsers. A replica of an application screen captured based on a UI element. ## Related - [Auto Create a Flow](/auto-create-a-flow.md)
