Understand Playground Mode

Note:

• Playground Mode is currently supported only for Cloud Deployments.

• Before you begin capturing the Mirror, ensure Smart Context is configured for your application. Whatfix uses Smart Context to automatically identify and link Workflows within a Simulation when Playground Mode is enabled.

• For applications that Whatfix supports out-of-the-box, such as Salesforce or SuccessFactors, Page tags are generated automatically. For custom applications, configure Smart Context before capturing the Mirror so Whatfix can identify and link those pages correctly.

Overview

Playground Mode in Whatfix Mirror enables you to create training environments where your users can move freely between connected Workflows within a Simulation. These connections between Workflows form through Mirror Links, which are created during capture when you interact with elements. This replicates how users work in real applications, where tasks are often interdependent and not confined to a single linear process.

For example, in a Salesforce training setup, users may learn workflows such as Create Contact and Create Case separately. In real scenarios, these often overlap. For instance, a user might need to create a new contact while logging a case. With Playground Mode enabled, both Workflows connect within a single Simulation, and users can move between them seamlessly without exiting or restarting the Simulation.

By default, Whatfix automatically enables Playground Mode when you add multiple Workflows to a Simulation, linking them for seamless navigation through Mirror Links. When enabled, Playground Mode removes sequence restrictions, giving your users the flexibility to explore and understand how multiple Workflows connect in a safe, simulated environment.

The following GIF demonstrates how Playground Mode links multiple Workflows within a single Simulation. For example, a user can create an Opportunity, an Account, or other related records seamlessly within the same Simulation.

Note:

• Playground Mode does not create connections for any elements you did not interact with during capture, so those elements remain unlinked in the Simulation.

• For Workflows that require a defined sequence, disable Playground Mode to stop automatic linking and ensure users follow the intended order. For more information, see Disable Playground Mode.

Why Playground Mode Matters

Traditional module-based training teaches users how to perform isolated tasks, such as creating a case or updating a record. However, in real scenarios, users often need to switch between related processes. Without this flexibility, training can feel disconnected from everyday workflows.

Playground Mode addresses this gap by enabling users to move freely across connected Workflows within a single Simulation. This helps them understand how processes work together in context and prepare more effectively for real-world scenarios.

When to Use Playground Mode

Use Playground Mode when:

• Simulating connected Workflows, such as creating and updating related records.

• Enabling your users to explore and practice tasks freely in a sandbox-style environment.

Avoid using Playground Mode when:

• Training requires your users to follow a fixed workflow sequence or complete steps in a specific order for evaluation.
