# Retain Learner Input Across Mirror Screens

### Overview

Whatfix Mirror enables you to retain the values your learners enter in text fields across all the Mirror Screens of a Workflow or Simulation. This creates a more realistic practice experience that reflects how the live application responds to user input.

For example, in a Mirror Workflow that contains a form, your learners might enter a description in a text field on a Mirror Screen. As they progress through the Workflow, the description appears in the corresponding field on subsequent Mirror Screens.

### How Retained Learner Input Works

When you capture a Mirror Workflow, select the text fields in which you want to retain learner input. Whatfix then carries the values learners enter in these fields to subsequent Mirror Screens that contain the same fields. With retained learner input, you can:

- Simulate real-world application behavior by retaining learner-entered values across screens.
- Maintain workflow continuity by carrying inputs forward across screens.

> Whatfix retains learner-entered values only until the learner completes or closes the Mirror Workflow or Simulation, or refreshes the page. When the learner reopens the Workflow or Simulation, Mirror Screens display the values captured during the initial capture, including any edits you make to the captured text after capture.
