What are Goals?
Goals help link the steps in a process to its final objective. Goals are nothing but creating User Action on the element that records the completion of the process in the application.
For example, if the task is about creating a Lead, the User Action is created for the Save button, which denotes the completion of the lead creation process.
Traditionally, a task was considered completed only if the user used all the steps of a Flow till the last step. However, there are instances where the user may have started a Flow, but figured out the path after following a few steps and then exited the Flow. With Goals, you can track the last step and mark the task complete - even if the Flow was not explicitly used till completion.
Mapping Goals to a Flow
By mapping Goals to a Flow, you can determine if the user has completed the task even if they have not followed the Flow till the end. When users complete the task without Flows, the task is marked as completed in the Task List as well because the end goal of the Flow was achieved when the User Action was performed by the user. This helps in knowing the true completion rate of tasks in the Task List.
