Use Element Reliability indicators for the new Visibility Rules

Element Reliability indicators help you determine whether selected elements in the application are reliable for content creation. Such indicators are especially useful when multiple similar elements exist on a page or when a reliable element is difficult to identify, enabling you to detect weak or unreliable elements early in the flow of work. This ensures that content attaches to the correct element and displays as intended. For more information, see Improve Element Selection using Element Reliability indicators.

How to use Element Reliability indicators for the new Visibility Rules?

1. Log in to the application where you want to create content, and then launch the Whatfix Studio.

   

2. Select the type of content or widget you want to create. For example, select Beacon.
   

3. Enter a name for the Beacon Collection.
   

   Note:

   • A Beacon collection is a group of Beacons and are usually on the same page.

   • The Beacon collection name is solely for your (content author’s) reference and is not visible to the end-user.

   • Visibility Rules are defined for a Beacon collection. So even if you have only one Beacon on a page, it needs to be part of a collection.

4. Click + Add Beacon to create a new Beacon.
   
   

5. Select an element on the application where the Beacon must appear.

   

Note:

• During element selection, if Whatfix is unable to identify any unique properties for the selected element, you see an error message - Selected element is unreliable on Studio.
  

• Either proceed the content creation with the weak element, Reselect the element, or add a Custom Selector for the element to refine the selected element.

Refine the selected element using a Custom selector

If the selected element if unreliable or weak, refine the element by adding a custom CSS or jQuery selector.

Use the following steps to add a custom selector:

1. Click Element Precision.
   
   

2. Click Refine Element.
   
   

3. From the How would you like to identify the element? dropdown, select Using CSS selector as the rule, and then enter the Value of the CSS Selector.
   
   

   Once you add the CSS Selector, you see the following confirmation message:

• Proceeding with a weak element

  If you choose to proceed with a weak element, Whatfix saves the relevant weak element metadata and enables you to continue with content creation. However, steps created on such elements might have issues during content play.

Info:

• When you select a reliable element, you see the message: Selected element is reliable.
  

• If your selected element is reliable, adding a custom selector is usually not required. However, if still wish to add a custom selector, a dialog box appears: Are you sure you want to add custom selectors?

• Click Proceed anyway to continue.
  

5. Complete creating your content or widget.
