Whatfix auto-updates the Whatfix Desktop Player to ensure access to the latest capabilities, performance enhancements, and bug fixes. Therefore, Whatfix recommends using the most up-to-date version of the Whatfix Desktop Player. You don't have to install the newer versions manually to upgrade to the latest version.
Auto-updates are available for the User Level Installation and System Level Distributor (only at the user level) Installation methods.
Prerequisite
You need to perform a Push to Production as soon as you upgrade to the latest version of the player for the changes to reflect.
How does auto-update work?
If you are an Account Manager, whenever you perform a Push to Production or if there's a new version of the Whatfix Desktop Player available, Whatfix notifies you. When you click Push to Production on the dialog box, the new version of the Whatfix Desktop Player is auto-updated in a couple of hours. On the end user machine, the Whatfix player looks for any updated version every 1 hour. If it finds a new version, it automatically downloads and updates the player.
Whatfix auto-updates the Whatfix Desktop Player for all your end users once Account Managers perform a Push to Production.
- Only Account Managers are notified about the updates in the dialog box.
- Once you perform a Push to Production, the new update may reflect in a couple of hours for your end users.
- During the Whatfix Desktop Player update, end users may not see Whatfix content for a few minutes till the update is complete.
- Double-check if the auto-update has been successful or not by checking the current version of your Whatfix Desktop Player. To check your current Whatfix Desktop Player's version see, How can I check the version of Whatfix Desktop Player?
