Unable to select an element in a drop-down menu

Prev Next

Issue

When creating a Flow, selecting an item in a dropdown menu can be challenging. After expanding the menu, clicking Add Step often causes the dropdown to close, preventing you from capturing the desired element.

Suggested Solution

Whatfix enables you to keep the dropdown menu open by using keyboard shortcuts to initiate element capture. These shortcuts prevent the dropdown from closing, allowing you to accurately capture the element.

Note:

Before using the shortcuts, click inside the application where you want to capture the dropdown element.

  • To insert Step Before: CTRL + SHIFT + Z

  • To insert Step After: CTRL + SHIFT + X

  • To reselect an element: CTRL + SHIFT + E

These shortcuts provide an alternative to clicking Add Step in the Whatfix Studio.

Note:

  • Keyboard shortcuts are the same for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

  • Currently, Whatfix does not support element selection on dropdowns in HTML-based applications.

  • The keyboard shortcuts also work when switching between Attached to element and Free-floating step type in Flows. For more information, see Free-floating steps in Flows and how to Create a Free-floating step in Flows.
