Article summary

Issue

Test users might engage with Whatfix content in the development environment of your application for testing. You might want to track only real user engagement, and not test data. However, you notice that Whatfix captures analytics data from both the development (testing) and production environments of your application.

Note:

To check the URLs from where data is captured, use the Event trigger page URL breakdown in Trend Insights. For more information, see Filter Insights data using User Filters and User Breakdown.

Probable Causes

Analytics data gets captured from both the development and production environments of your application in either of the following scenarios:

  • If you’re on the Browser extension delivery mode: The Whatfix production extension is mapped to both the development and production environments of your application. For more information, see Integrate Whatfix using Browser Extension.

  • If you’re on the JavaScript delivery mode: The production condition in Map Stages includes both the development and production environments of your application. For more information, see How to add conditions in Map Stages?

Info:

To check how the delivery mode is configured in your account, contact support@whatfix.com.

Suggested Solution

To get data only from the production environment of your application, Whatfix enables you to block the data captured from the URLs of the development environment. For more information, see How to disable Product Analytics on specific domains?

Note:

The blocking of URLs work for both the JavaScript and Browser extension delivery modes.

The URLs you exclude only apply to future data, and not historical data. Exclude the development environment’s URLs using the Event Trigger Page URL filter in Insights for older data.

Note:

If the issue persists, contact support@whatfix.com.
