  • Visibility Rules AI is a Beta feature. To enable the feature, contact support@whatfix.com.

  • Creating Visibility Rules using AI is only supported for New Visibility Rules. For more information on New Visibility Rules, see Understand New Visibility Rules.

Introduction

Visibility Rules in Whatfix determine when, where, and to whom widgets appear. Configuring these rules manually can be time-consuming and complex, especially for users unfamiliar with the platform.

With Visibility Rules AI, you simply describe your requirements in plain language, and the AI translates your input into actionable Visibility Rules that can be validated and implemented instantly.

How does the Visibility Rules AI work?

Visibility Rules AI uses Large Language Models (LLMs) to understand and process natural language inputs. The workflow is straightforward.

  • You describe a scenario in plain language, for example, show a Pop-up every Monday at 5:00 PM IST to all users:

  • The AI processes your input and generates a structured Visbility rule.

  • You review the generated rule and apply it to your widget.

What are the benefits of using Visibility Rules AI?

  • Saves time: Reduces manual effort required to configure Visibility Rules.

  • Accessible to all users: Uses natural language input, making it accessible to all users.

  • Reduces misconfiguration errors: Automates rule creation, minimizing the risk of misconfigurations.

  • Easy to validate and refine: AI-generated rules can be reviewed and edited easily before publishing.

  • Broad widget support: Supports various widgets, including Smart Tips, Beacons, Launchers, Blockers, Pop-ups, Surveys, Self Help, and Task Lists.

How does the onboarding experience look like?

Visibility Rules AI provides pre-defined queries or prompts to help you get started. The onboarding experience remains the same across all widgets. However, the suggestions change based on the widget you select, making it easier to create relevant and accurate rules for each widget type.

How does Visibility Rules AI ensure data privacy and security?

To ensure data privacy and security, Whatfix scrubs all PII (Personally Identifiable Information), such as email, social security numbers, and more, from the prompt before sending it to the LLM.

How to provide feedback on the AI’s output?

After reviewing a generated Visibility Rule, you can provide feedback on the AI’s output by using the thumbs-up or thumbs-down options available in the Was this helpful? section.

How to use the Visibility Rules AI?

Use the following steps to create Visibility Rules for a Pop-up using AI:

Note:

The following steps outline the process for configuring Visibility Rules AI for a Pop-up. To configure Visibility Rules AI for other widgets, select the specific widget and follow the process from Step 6.

  1. Create the Pop-up as required. For more information, see Create a Pop-up.

  2. On the Whatfix Guidance dashboard, click Widgets.

  3. Click Pop-ups.

  4. Hover your cursor over the Pop-up segment you want to configure, and then click the Edit icon.

  5. Click Set Visibility Rules.

  6. Click Create using AI.

  7. In the text field, enter a description of your requirement. For example, show Pop-up every week on Monday at 5:00 PM IST for all users.

    Info:

If you’re unsure of what descriptions to provide, click the tile containing a pre-defined description.

  8. Click Create rules.

    Note:

If you click Discard, all the edits made are lost and the page reverts to its previous saved state.

    Info:

The Create rules using AI popup shows a preview of the generated rules.

    Note:

Check the rules to ensure that they align with your requirements. If needed, edit the rule directly within the popup using the Edit option.

  9. Once done, click Apply rules.

    Note:

If you click Discard, all the edits made are lost and the page reverts to its previous saved state.

  10. Review the rules and click Save.

  11. Save the widget.

    Note:

Test the Pop-up using the Preview mode to ensure the Visibility Rules work as expected, and then push the widget to Production.

What are the limitations of Visibility Rules AI?

The following limitations and expected behaviors should be considered when using Visibility Rules AI:

  • AI-generated Visibility Rules do not create dependent content

The Visibility Rules AI feature only generates visibility rules based on the existing content and configurations available in your environment. If a rule references a Survey, Pop-up, Flow, or other content that has not yet been created, the AI does not create that content automatically.

  • Responses are limited to supported Visibility Rules capabilities

If the requested behavior, logic, or condition is not currently supported by the Visibility Rules framework, the AI might generate the closest possible approximation instead of the exact expected configuration.

  • Complex or ambiguous prompts might produce approximate results

Prompts containing unclear, incomplete, or highly complex conditions might result in partially accurate or simplified rule generation. Clear and specific prompts are recommended.

  • Generated rules should always be reviewed before publishing

AI-generated Visibility rules might require manual validation and adjustments to ensure they align with the intended targeting logic, business requirements, and application behavior.

Sample Visibility Rules AI prompts

The following are some sample prompts that can be used with the Visibility Rules using AI feature.

  • Show the launcher when the user is on /home/applications.

  • Display the Pop-up when users complete the 2nd step of “Apply for a loan” flow.

  • Show the Pop-up starting on October 17, 2026, at 05:00 AM, and have it appear only thrice.

  • Display the Smart-tip only for users belonging to the Admin role.

  • Show the Pop-up when the element #header contains text Navigation or About.

  • Show the Beacon only when the user completes Click login user-action.
