The location where Whatfix content is created and hosted depends entirely on the deployment model of your organization. These models determine where data is stored, how content is delivered to end users, and how platform updates are managed.
Here are the ways how you can host Whatfix content:
Whatfix Cloud
Use the Whatfix CDN or the Whatfix Server to host the content. Whatfix CDN ensures quick transfer of content using multiple servers located around the world. By distributing content using the nearest CDN server, your end users experience faster response time.
Here's a quick breakdown of a few critical aspects:
- Content Hosting and Delivery: All content you create (for example, Flows, Smart Tips, and more) are created, stored, and hosted on Whatfix's CDN (Content Delivery Network) servers.
- Process: When an end-user accesses your application, the Whatfix content is delivered directly from Whatfix's global servers.
- Feature Updates: Your platform receives all the latest features, enhancements, and security patches from Whatfix and requires no effort from your team.
Self Hosted
Export Whatfix content and host it on your preferred server (Amazon S3, Apache Web Server, or a private server). This enables you to keep all of your Whatfix content on your servers to reduce dependency on outside servers.
Self Hosting is typically preferred in the following cases:
- Your application runs on an intranet.
- You do not want Whatfix to access your site's information.
Here's a quick breakdown of a few critical aspects:
Content Creation: You use the Whatfix Studio and Dashboard, which are hosted in the Whatfix cloud. All content is initially created and stored here.
Content Hosting and Delivery: You must manually download or export the content from your Whatfix cloud account. The content package is then uploaded and hosted on your organization's servers or CDN. Your end-users receive the content from your infrastructure.
Feature Updates: Whatfix Studio and Dashboard are always up-to-date with the latest features from Whatfix, but you control the final delivery of the content.
On Premise
Host Whatfix content on your organization's infrastructure. An on premise is a fully private, disconnected model designed for organizations with high security or strict data residency requirements.
Here's a quick breakdown of a few critical aspects:
- Content Creation: Whatfix provides a separate, unique Studio extension specifically for your organization. The Whatfix Studio and Dashboard are not connected to the public Whatfix cloud in any way.
- Content Hosting and Delivery: You create, deploy, and host all content exclusively on your private servers. There is no connection or data exchange between your private Whatfix instance and Whatfix's public servers.
- Feature Updates: The latest features are not available in on-premise deployment. When you request a feature or a platform update, Whatfix delivers it as a separate installation package. Your organization's IT team is responsible for manually installing this package on your servers to apply the update.
