Optional steps in a Flow ensure that the user experience is not broken because of different possible scenarios. Optional steps are skipped when certain pages or elements are not displayed to a set of users, thus ensuring continuity of the flow for all kinds of scenarios.

Analyze Optional steps
Consider that you want to analyze the number of users who completed a Flow with Step 2 as an Optional step using Trend Insights.
Event Name: Flow completed
Event Filter: Content Title (Name of the Flow)

The Flow is considered complete in the following scenarios:
- All the steps, including the Optional step, are completed.
- All the steps excluding the Optional step are completed, that is, if the optional step is not applicable to a particular user and hence not shown to them.
- The user clicks anywhere on the page where the Optional step is shown.
