Convert an existing Flow to an Alternate Flow

Whatfix enables you to convert your existing Flow to an Alternate Flow using the play_as_card tag, a default Whatfix tag. Alternate Flows guide end users through a process using a card containing information about each step, including a screenshot of the step and the step details. The card sits on top of the Desktop and can be moved around freely.

The following image shows the components of an Alternate Flow:

Alternate Flows can be created from scratch using Whatfix Studio. For more information, see Create an Alternate Flow. However, if you have an existing Flow that you want to convert to an Alternate Flow, Whatfix enables you to do so with a single tag.

When should I convert a Flow to an Alternate Flow?

You may want to convert a Flow to an Alternate Flow in the following scenarios:

• Your Flow often fails: Flow failures typically occur because Whatfix cannot detect the element your Flow step is latched onto. Alternate Flows do not require Whatfix to detect an element on your application.

• Alternate Flows have lower CPU usage: If your system slows down while running Flows, consider converting them to Alternate Flows.

• You want your Flows to guide end users without forcing them to execute the steps: Alternate Flows enable end users to navigate through the Flow steps without having to execute them. This is useful when they want to use the Flow as a reference.

Convert your Flows to Alternate Flows

Use the following steps to convert Flows to an Alternate Flows:

3. Select the Flows you want to convert to Alternate Flows.
   

4. Click Tags.

   If your selected content does not contain any common tags, click Manage Tags.

   

5. In the Manage Tags search bar, search for play_as_card and then select the play_as_card tag.

Configurations, such as positioning and censoring information are not available for Flows converted to Alternate Flows.
