Installer versions from before November 2023 are to be deprecated. If you are using an installer from before November 2023, download a new installer.
Choose an installer
Whatfix provides distinct installers for Whatfix Desktop Studio based on the following criteria:
Installation methods
There are two methods of installation for Whatfix Studio.
1. User Level Installation
Whatfix Studio is installed for a particular user on a system. For example, if a system has three different user profiles, only the user who installs it gets Studio. This method is best suited for content creators looking to install Studio themselves.
2. System Level Installation
Whatfix Studio is installed for all users in the system. This installation method requires administrator privileges and is best suited for when you need to install Studio on a virtual machine such as Citrix or Azure Virtual Desktop.
With system-level installation, content creators cannot update Studio within Whatfix Studio. It must be reinstalled using the installer.
Underlying application
Whatfix provides a 64-bit and 32-bit installer for Whatfix Studio. The 64-bit installer is the default installer and can be used on almost all applications.
Only when you are using Whatfix Desktop on a 32-bit SAP application you need to install the 32-bit installer.
Whatfix account region
There are separate installers for Whatfix accounts based in the US and the EU.
Installer types
Whatfix provides two installer types - MSI and EXE. Whatfix recommends using the MSI installer. The following are the advantages of the MSI installer over the EXE installer:
- MSI is a Windows Installer format, which follows a standardized installation process managed by the Windows operating system.
- MSI supports built-in silent installations, which is ideal for automating software deployment without user interaction.
If you have already installed Studio using the EXE installer, the MSI installer replaces the EXE version of Studio.
