Note:
Session Replay is a Beta feature. To enable this feature, contact your Customer Success Manager.
To access captured sessions, complete a full push to Production by clicking Publish all. For more information, see Publish all Whatfix content and widgets to Production.
Whatfix enables you to view and analyze captured Session Replay recordings from the Whatfix Analytics dashboard. Each recording provides a video-like playback of how a specific end user navigated and interacted with your application. It captures every on-screen interaction, including clicks, scrolls, navigation, and engagement with Whatfix Inhalt, User Actions, and Defined Autocaptured events (if Autocapture is enabled).
For example, you can open a session for an end user who abandoned a multi-step form to pinpoint exactly where they stopped and what they interacted with before dropping off.
Use the following steps to access Session Replay:
On the Whatfix Analytics dashboard, click Tracking.

Click Sessions.

Set the required timeframe (for example, 7D, 30D, 90D, or custom date range) to view the sessions captured within the selected time period.

Info:
For your selected timeframe, Whatfix displays a list of all captured Session Replays for users who interacted with your application. Each row displays the Session start date and time, User ID, and Session duration.

The User ID displayed depends on how User Identification is configured for your account. By default, Whatfix captures cookie values as User IDs. If your account is configured to use email IDs as unique user identifiers, the following image shows how Whatfix lists the Session Replays:

To view the detailed playback of a specific user’s session, go to the Session Replay and then click the Play icon.

Info:
The video player opens and displays the end user’s interactions within the application. It visually highlights areas on the screen where the user clicks, scrolls, or engages with Whatfix content, User Actions, and Defined Autocaptured events (if Autocapture is enabled).

The cursor in the Session Replay shows exactly where the end user clicked, hovered, or interacted on the application.

Video Controls
The following table describes the video controls available in the Session Replay player:
Video controls | Icon | Description |
|---|---|---|
Pause/Play |
| Enables you to pause or play the recording. |
Playback speed controls |
| Enables you to control the speed of the video. By default, it is set to 1x. Whatfix enables you to speed up the video by 2x, 4x, or 8x. |
Skip inactive |
| If enabled, Whatfix automatically skips parts of the Session Replay where no visible user activity is detected and jumps to the next point of interaction. This helps you review only the meaningful, active moments in the replay. The skip inactive toggle is enabled by default. Inactive refers only to the absence of visible end-user interactions on the page. Background changes, such as DOM mutations or page updates, might still be occurring but are not treated as visible user activity.
|
Maximize |
| Enables you to maximize the video player. |
Event Stream Panel
The Event stream panel displays only the User Actions and Defined Autocaptured events that end users interact with during the specific session. It does not show all User Actions or Defined Autocaptured events configured on that page, only those that end users engage with.
Events related to Whatfix content engagement, such as interactions with Pop-ups, Task Lists, or Self Help, are not listed in the Event stream section. However, Session Replay still enables you to view these interactions in the replay video.
Check the Event stream panel to find out which User Actions or Defined Autocaptured events the end user interacts with in the session.

Note:
Click the App event (User Action or Defined Autocaptured event) with the timestamp to view the end user’s interaction for that event in the Session Replay video.

Enter the User Action or Defined Autocaptured event name in the Search events… text box to find end-user engagement with the event and watch the Replay.

Click Close to close the Session Replay.

Note:
You can filter Session Replays by Event filters or User Filters. For more information, see Filter Insights data using User Filters and Filter Session Replay.
Whatfix automatically masks Persönlich identifizierbare Informationen (PII) such as passwords, email addresses, and phone numbers displayed on your application. To configure capture rules, privacy settings, and URL activation rules, see Configure Session Replay Settings.
