Note:
Software Updates is an upcoming Beta feature and will be available starting September, 2025.
Overview
Whatfix enables you to apply Whatfix Software Updates to your test environments before the updates can be published to your production environments.
Note:
If you use the browser extension method, then use preview extension to test software updates–similar to previewing AC code changes.
If you use the JS embed delivery method, then map the ready stage to a test environment to preview the changes.
Currently, whenever you publish Whatfix content or widgets, improvements and bug fixes (which indicate software version updates) also go live. The following message appears in the Publish changes dialog box before you publish content:
While this ensures that you are always on the latest version, it might lead to disruptions (such as content not appearing or breaking the end-user experience) if not tested. With this new capability, Whatfix enables you to test the new software update on test environments.
You can validate changes, confirm compatibility, and only then decide to push software updates to the Production environment, without worrying about breaking the end-user experience.
How does the software update work?
Once you have enabled the feature, you can access and manage software updates from the Settings —> Software update section. Let’s say that a new software update is available, version 2025.03.01.123
. With this feature, you can choose to test and verify before pushing software updates live for your end users.
The Software update page displays the following message when a new software update is available:
After you update the software for your test environments, review the Whatfix content to ensure it works correctly with the new version. If the content works as expected, click Update now to update the production environments.
