Smart-tip Triggers in the New Visibility Rules Experience

Whatfix enables you to configure Smart-tip Triggers directly within the new Visibility Rules, providing a unified way to deliver contextual guidance to your end users.

What’s changed?

Previously, Smart-tips supported Triggers that defined specific conditions under which a Smart-tip would appear, for example, when users performed an action or when a particular element was visible on the underlying application.

With the introduction of the new Visibility Rules, these Trigger based conditions are now fully integrated into the new Visibility Rules interface. This enhancement simplifies rule configuration and provides a consistent user experience.

The following table lists the old and new Smart-tips Triggers experience:

Old Experience with Triggers	New Visibility Rules Experience	Description
Based on user action	User performing an action	Previously available under Smart-tip Triggers, User performing an action rule enables you to show a Smart-tip when end users interact with a specific element on your application.
Based on property	Something on the application	Previously available under Smart-tip Triggers, Something on the application rule enables you to show content based on the presence of a specific element on the page.

To make use of the new Visibility Rules in your existing Smart-tips, you need to manually upgrade them to the new experience.

Upgrade your Smart-tip Triggers to use the new experience of Visibility Rules

Note:
Prerequisites for upgrading:
To upgrade your existing Smart-tip to the new experience of Visibility Rules, ensure that new Visibility Rules are already enabled for your account. For more information, see new Visibility Rules for Content.

Note:
Only Smart-tips configured with the Trigger condition - Based on user action can be upgraded to the new Visibility Rules.
If a Smart-tip is configured with the Trigger condition - Based on property, the Smart-tip is ineligible for upgrade.

Note:
Upgrade your existing Smart-tip Triggers to the new Visibility Rules using either Whatfix Studio or Whatfix Dashboard.
Whatfix supports upgrades for individual tips at the step level. However, Whatfix does not support bulk upgrades of Smart-tips at the collection level.

Upgrade your Smart-tip Triggers to the new Visibility Rules using Whatfix Studio

Use the following steps to upgrade your existing Smart-tip Triggers to the new Visibility Rules using Whatfix Studio:

On the Whatfix Guidance Dashboard, click Content.
Click Smart-tips.
Hover your cursor over the Smart-tip you want to edit, and then click the Edit icon.
Click Launch live edit.
Once Whatfix Studio launches on the application, click the Smart-tip you want to upgrade.
Click Edit step.
Click Advanced Options.
On the Upgrade available for Display Rules banner, click Upgrade now.
Note:
If your Smart-tip Triggers are ineligible for an upgrade due to any limitations, you see the Upgrade unavailable for Advanced Visibility Rules banner. For more information, contact support@whatfix.com.
On the Upgrade to advanced visibility rules dialog box, click Yes, upgrade.
Note:
When you click Yes, upgrade, Whatfix converts all existing Trigger conditions to the new Visibility Rules.
Once the upgrade is complete, go to Visibility Rules and add any additional new Visibility Rules as required.
Click Save.
Note:
If the content is not saved after the upgrade, you need to repeat the upgrade process using the steps 1 to 11.
Preview the Smart-tip using Preview mode and then push the widget to Production.
Note:
This upgrade applies only to the current Smart-tip segment. If you need to upgrade other Smart-tips, you must do it individually.

Upgrade your Smart-tip Triggers to the new Visibility Rules using the Whatfix Guidance Dashboard

Use the following steps to upgrade your existing Smart-tip Triggers to the new Visibility Rules using the Whatfix Guidance Dashboard:

On the Whatfix Guidance dashboard, click Content.
Click Smart-tips.
Hover your cursor over the Smart-tip you want to edit, and then click the Edit icon.
Click the Smart-tip that you want to upgrade.
Click Advanced Options.
On the Upgrade available for Display Rules banner, click Upgrade now.
Note:
If your content is ineligible for an upgrade due to any limitations, you see the Upgrade unavailable for Advanced Visibility Rules banner. For more information, contact support@whatfix.com.
On the Upgrade to advanced visibility rules dialog box, click Yes, upgrade.
Note:
When you click Yes, upgrade, Whatfix converts all Display Rules to the new Visibility Rules existing Display Rules are converted to the new Visibility Rules.
After the upgrade, go to Visibility Rules and add any additional new Visibility Rules as required.
Click Save.
Note:
If the content is not saved after the upgrade, you need to repeat the upgrade process using the steps 1 to 9.
Preview the Smart-tip using Preview mode and then push the widget to Production.
Note:
This upgrade applies only to the current Smart-tip segment. If you need to upgrade other Smart-tips, you must do it individually.
