Article summary

Whatfix enables you to host your content either on the Whatfix cloud, a third-party server or on your own servers. Depending on the type of deployment you choose, here are some differences to keep in mind:

Attribute

Self Hosted

Analytics

Enabled by default.

Not enabled by default.

Task List Completion

Tracked across devices on the cloud.

Tracked locally, only on the browser. The task might show up as not completed on a different device. To store the state of the Task list on your server, contact support@whatfix.com.

Pop-Up Viewed Status

Tracked across devices on the cloud.

Tracked locally, only on the browser. A pop-up that's already been viewed might be displayed again on another browser or device. To track the status of the Pop-up on your server, contact support@whatfix.com.

Self Help Search

An extensive search algorithm is used to search for and rank content based on its relevance. For Repository links, Videos, and Articles, Whatfix also searches the text content inside them to retrieve relevant search results. This search supports flexible queries including long phrases, spelling variations, and common stop words such as "how to", "is", "the", and more.

For example, search queries such as "how to create a Whatfix Flow" or simply "create Flow" return relevant results. Even minor spelling mistakes, such as "creat" instead of "create", still provide relevant matches.

For more information, see Understand how search works in Self Help.

Only a basic search is implemented, and algorithmic processes such as Exact match, Stemming, and Stop word optimization are not performed. For text content, the search only considers the prefixes in titles and descriptions. For Repository links and Video content, the search is performed only based on the title of the content. It does not support complex or long queries, spelling mistakes, or extra words in the search phrase.

For example, if you type "how to create a Whatfix Flow", the search likely does not return results because it does not handle common filler words such as "how to", and "in", or full sentence structures. Instead, searching with concise keywords such as "create", "Flow", or "Whatfix" provides better results. Similarly, misspellings such as "creat" do not return any matches.

Integration Hub

Enabled by default. Contact support@whatfix.com to configure specific integrations.

Feature is not available for Self-Hosted accounts.
