A Tag is a word, title, or group that helps organize information into categories. This makes it easy for you to filter and display the information to end users in a logical way. A Tag also helps identify a page on your application so that relevant Whatfix content can be displayed on the right page.
Log in to the Whatfix University and watch the Tags module.
Let's say you want to provide software adoption support to HR, sales, and finance departments. However, not all content is relevant to all departments. So, how can you manage the content effectively? That's where Tags come in handy. Whatfix enables you to create three different Tags specifically for HR, sales, and finance. Then, attach these Tags to any content you create, ensuring that the relevant content is tagged and easy to access through widgets such as Self Help and Task List. In this way, segment content based on department.
Before you begin using Tags, they need to be configured. This can be done by setting up unique identifiers for the Tags. These identifiers can include CSS selectors or attributes. For more information on how to create Tags specific to your application, contact support@whatfix.com.
Types of Tags
Role Tags
These tags are used to segment content based on the user role that is defined when the system is set up. For example, use Role Tags to show different content to an admin, an editor, and a translator. For more information, see Create Role and Page Tags.
Page Tags
These tags are used for the visibility of widgets over a specific page on the application. For example, add a page tag corresponding to the Home page of your application so the content only shows there. For more information, see Create Role and Page Tags
Other Tags
These tags are associated with a particular Whatfix account. They are created by the content creators based on their requirements. Use Other Tags to group content and widgets for easier management. For example, a tag called 'project-1' can be used to group all content that is part of the project.
Use Cases
Organizing content can be used in multiple scenarios:
- Organize content based on categories, pages, projects, differentiate between live and draft content, and more.
- Differentiate Flows created for October and January release or UAT and Production by creating and associating respective Tags to the content.
Whatfix enables you to associate multiple Tags to content.
Use the following steps to tag content:
-
On the Whatfix dashboard, select the checkboxes next to the content you want to tag.
-
Click the Tags icon.
- In the popup, type the name of the tag and select from the list.
If the tag does not exist, type in the name of the tag and hit the Enter key to create a new tag.
- Click Done.
After associating the Tag to the content, use the Filter option on the Dashboard to list content based on Tags. See, How can I find content in Whatfix Dashboard?
Add content to Self Help or Task List using Tags if you have associated the respective content with Tags.
Use the following steps to add content to Self Help or Task List using Tags:
-
In the content adding screen, click Add Content.
-
Click Select By Tags.
-
Click the Plus icon.
-
Select the tag from the dropdown.
-
Click Okay.
The content associated with the selected tag gets populated.
- If you want to show content that has multiple tags associated to it then use the AND operator and select the tags.
- If you want to show content that has at least any one of the respective tags then use the OR operator and select the tags.
