Display Rules for Showing Smart Tips

Display Rules enable you to configure Smart Tips to get displayed only when certain conditions are met. Configuring Display Rules for a Smart Tip ensures that the Tip appears on the correct page, based on the conditions set.

Set the Display Rules based on the following conditions:

URL
URL Hostname
URL Path
URL Parameter
URL Hash
Other Element on Page
Window variable
Element CSS Selector/JQuery
Selected Element
Element Text

Adding Display Rules for a Smart Tip Collection

Add Display Rules to a New Segment or edit an existing collection.

Adding Display Rules to a New Smart Tip Collection

Use the following steps to add display rule conditions to a new Smart Tip Collection:

Log in to the application where you want to create content, and then launch the Whatfix Studio.
Under WIDGETS, click Smart-tip.
Enter a name for the Smart tip Collection.

Info

A Smart Tip Collection is a group of Smart Tips created on the same page of an application.
The Smart Tip Collection name is solely for your reference and is not visible to the end user.

Click Add Help Tip to create a new Smart Tip.

Select an element on the application that you would like the Smart Tip to point to.
Enter the purpose and describe the action for the Smart Tip.

Tip:

Whatfix recommends you add a more detailed optional description (for eg. to specify the rules of an input field).

Click the ADVANCED OPTIONS tab.
Under the Display Rules section, click + Add Rule to set the desired conditions.

Add multiple Display Rule Conditions using the + Add Rule button.

Finish creating the Smart Tip.

Adding Display Rules to an Existing Smart Tip Collection

Use the following steps to add display rules to an existing Smart Tips Collection:

On the Whatfix Guidance dashboard, click Widgets.
Click All widgets.

Go to the Smart Tip segment that you want to set the display rules for, and then click the Edit icon.

Info:

The segment name is the Smart Tip collection name.

Expand the Set Visibility Rules section and set up your visibility rules that determine the display of the Smart Tip collection.

Click Save.
Once you have configured the Smart Tip segment, select the segment using the checkbox, and then click Send to ready.
Go to the Ready stage, and then click Publish.
