What is a proxy domain?

A forward proxy is a server that sits between a client (like a web browser) and the internet. When a client makes a request to access a website or any other resource on the internet, it first goes through the forward proxy. The use of a forward proxy with a custom domain enables your IT team to control and manage Analytics calls in an environment where direct communication with https://whatfix.com may be restricted due to IT policies. For example, if your IT team has blocked the usage of Whatfix due to some security concerns, they can choose to establish a forward proxy to implement security policies.

A proxy domain is used to access a forward proxy server. It facilitates the forwarding of Analytics calls from end-user machines to the Whatfix Analytics endpoint, overcoming constraints associated with internet connectivity and access policies.

A proxy domain serves as an intermediary or middleman between client devices and the actual server or endpoint they are trying to communicate with. Here's a brief overview of what a proxy domain does:

Use the following steps to set up a Proxy Domain:

6. Select the Proxy Domain checkbox.
   

7. Click Add.
   

8. In the Proxy Domain Value field, enter the desired proxy URL.
   

9. Click Save.
