Introduction to Whatfix Mirror

Whatfix Mirror is an application simulation software that provides an immersive and interactive simulation of any web application. Mirror enables you to create a safe and controlled environment for your end users to interact with the software without fear of making mistakes or causing real-world consequences, facilitating hands-on learning.

Mirror is a beta product. For more information, contact support@whatfix.com.

Mirror enables you to capture a sequence of screens and actions, which are auto-connected, creating a clone of an application. This sequence of screens forms the base on which the Whatfix DAP (Digital Adoption Platform) layer can be added as a guidance layer, to create help guides and training content on the simulated web application without affecting the live application.

Use cases

Whatfix Mirror can be used to create an application simulation, enabling the addition of a guidance layer on top of the simulation using Whatfix. This facilitates the creation of hands-on training within a realistic environment, mitigating the risks associated with live systems, and promoting faster and more proficient onboarding processes.

Here are some use cases for Whatfix Mirror:

  • Enhanced User Onboarding with Contextual Guidance

  • Manage Multiple Application Environments (Production, Staging, and Training)

  • Cost-Effective Practice Environment

Benefits of Whatfix Mirror

  • Reduces the cost of maintaining application training instances

    • License cost for training instances: Software vendors often charge separate licenses for training purposes. This can be a significant expense, especially for large-scale deployments or applications with expensive permits.

    • Infrastructure Cost (Cloud/On-Prem Cost): Running a training instance requires hardware and software resources. Whether you choose cloud-based solutions or on-premise servers, ongoing costs are associated with them.

    • Employee cost (IT and Engineering Resources): Creating and managing training instances requires dedicated IT and engineering resources.

  • Reduces the manual effort and time spent on various processes, such as:

    • Creating and maintaining simulated content: Training data might not reflect real-world scenarios. Creating sanitized or masked data sets that mimic real data can be time-consuming and require ongoing maintenance.

    • Migrating data from a production environment: Copying data from a production environment to a training instance raises security concerns. An alternate approach to anonymizing real data can be complex and might not always be practical.

  • Helps user management: Managing user access for training purposes can be tedious. This includes creating user accounts, assigning permissions, and ensuring secure access to the training environment.

Difference between DAP and Whatfix Mirror

Feature

DAP

Mirror

Purpose

Provides in-context guidance and support within the live application.

Creates an immersive and interactive simulation of any web application.

Functionality

Overlays contextual guidance (Smart Tips, Flows) on top of the live application.

Offers a complete, but isolated, simulation of the application for users to explore.

Access

Users access guidance within their actual workflow, eliminating the need to switch between applications.

Users access the mirrored application from a shared web link or through LMS.

Development and Maintenance

Relatively quick and easy to set up with pre-built components. Updates to the live application require minimal adjustments within the DAP.

Easy to setup. The shared Mirror link and the LMS show updates to the Mirror screens.

User Experience

Focuses on providing targeted guidance within the user's workflow, minimizing disruption.

It creates an interactive simulation that closely resembles the user experience within the live web application, leading to better user understanding and more effective training.
