Configure Hints for Assessments

Note:

Customisations in Mirror is a Beta feature and is supported only for Cloud deployments. To enable this feature, contact support@whatfix.com.

Whatfix Mirror enables you to display Hints to your learners during an Assessment. You can configure a global hint message that appears across all steps in the Assessment after a specified number of incorrect attempts. Additionally, you can also enable Mirror Nudges to highlight the target element when learners need help locating it.

By default, Assessments do not display Mirror Nudges or DAP Guidance, such as Smart Tips or Flows, so learners can complete tasks unaided. When you enable hints, learners receive on-screen assistance without any DAP Guidance. For more information, see What is Assessment Mode?

Note:

  • Assessment Hint settings are account-level settings and apply to all Mirror Screens across all your Assessments.

  • Assessment Hint settings apply in both SCORM and non-SCORM deployments, and in Playground Mode. For more information, see Export an Assessment as a SCORM Package and Understand Playground Mode.

  • Assessments in every language reflect the same Hint settings, and each hint appears in the language of the Assessment your learner takes. For more information, see Multi-Language Support in Mirror.

Use the following steps to configure hints for assessments:

  1. On the Whatfix Mirror Dashboard, click Settings.

  2. Click Customisations.

  3. Click the Assessments tab.

  4. Enable or disable the Enable Hint toggle based on your preference.

    Note:

By default, Hints are disabled for all Assessments. When disabled, Whatfix does not display both Hints as well as Mirror Nudges in Assessments. To enable them, re-enable the Enable Hint toggle.

  5. Under Appearance, set the number of incorrect attempts before a Hint appears. For example, set it to 2 to show the Hint after a learner makes two incorrect clicks so learners attempt each step independently and receive assistance only when required.

    Note:

By default, the Number of attempts is set to 1, and the Hint appears after the learner's first incorrect click. The attempt count resets when the learner reaches a new Mirror Bildschirm within a Workflows in the Assessment or refreshes the page.

  6. Click the Color icon.

  7. Select a color using the color picker, or enter a hex code to specify the Hint color. For example, you can use your application’s primary brand color to make the Hint appear native to the application.

  8. Select the Type of Tooltip.

  9. Enter the Text for the Hint.

    Note:

You can add up to 200 characters per Hint message.

  10. Click the Text Color icon.

  11. Select a color using the color picker, or enter a hex code to specify the text color of the Hint.

  12. Click Save.

    Info:

When you save changes to Assessment customisations, Whatfix applies them to all Assessments in the Draft and Ready stages.

  13. Click Publish all to apply the customizations to all Assessments in the Production stage. This ensures your learners see the configured changes the next time they access an Assessment.

  14. Click Publish all again to confirm.

    Info:

Expand Styles to view the style changes before you publish them.

Note:

  • Preview an Assessment after you change an Assessment customization setting, to confirm that Hints appear where and when you expect. For more information, see Preview an Assessment.

  • Once you preview the Assessment and confirm the end-user experience, publish and share the Assessment. For more information, see Publish Whatfix Mirror and Share Whatfix Mirror.
