What is the difference between Self Help and Hub?

Self Help is a Whatfix Web widget that enables end users to access Whatfix content within a web application. Currently, Self Help has two variants:

  • Self Help

  • Improved Self Help.

On the other hand, Hub is part of the Whatfix Hub product. It enables end users to access Whatfix content from a system-level application.

What is it?

Self Help is a Whatfix Web widget. It shows on Web applications. Self Help is part of the Whatfix Web product. It enables end users on web applications to access Whatfix Content from within the application.

Hub is a Whatfix Hub widget. It is a system-level application that can be installed on end users’ systems. Hub is part of the Whatfix Hub product. It enables end users to access Whatfix Content from anywhere on their system.

What content can be accessed from it?

The following content types can be added and accessed from the Self Help widget:

  • Flows

  • Links and Repository Links

  • Articles

  • PDFs

  • Videos

  • Images

The following content types can be added and accessed from the Hub widget:

  • Links and Repository Links

  • Articles

  • PDFs

  • Images

  • Videos

Though Flows cannot be directly added to Hub, they can be added as links.

What components does it contain?

Both Self Help variants have the following functionalities:

  • A section for end users to access and search for content. In Improved Self Help, this is known as Explorer.

  • A section for end users to provide feedback about help content or the underlying web application, known as the Feedback component.

The Hub widget contains the following components:

  • Explorer: Enables end users to access and search for content.

  • Tasks: Enables you to assign tasks for end users to complete.

  • Feedback: Enables end users to provide feedback on help content.

What can I use it for?

Self Help provides end users with help content specific to a certain web application. This help content is typically contextual, appearing whenever applicable in the web application.

Whatfix enables contextual help on web applications through Smart Context, a capability that automatically segments content to show on the correct pages of an application.

Hub is not application-specific.

The Hub widget provides help content to end users for all applications used in an organization. You can also assign content as tasks to end users, for example, reading a PDF.

Smart Context does not apply to Whatfix Hub.

Analytics

Self Help’s usage data can be tracked from the Guidance Analytics section of the dashboard.

Whatfix Hub does not currently support analytics.

How do I get it?

The original Self Help widget is available to everyone on Whatfix Web.

Improved Self Help is a Beta feature. To enable it, contact support@whatfix.com. Once enabled, it replaces the original Self Help widget.
