Funnel Insights enable you to visualize User Actions, Flows, and Page View, to see where your users are facing friction in the application.
Funnels are built using the following modules:
- Add funnel steps
- Trigger location
- User filter
- Time taken to complete the funnel
Add funnel steps
Create a Funnel using Flows, Custom Events, and Page View.
-
Flows provide step-by-step guidance that enables your end users to complete a process.
-
Custom Events contain all the events that are set up, such as User Actions, events captured using the Whatfix API, and more.
-
Page View enables you to add the exact URL of a page to understand how many users are visiting the page. The URL can be the origin of the Funnel or the URL that a user is redirected to when they interact with a Flow or User Action that is part of the Funnel.
Whatfix enables you to create Funnels with only Page View as well.
Trigger location
Trigger location enables you to select the location from where a Flow is played.
For example, you want to understand the engagement and usage of Self Help. And you want to consider only those users who have played a particular Flow from Self Help widget to understand the engagement.
Trigger location is applicable only for Flows.
User filter
User filters enable you to limit the scope of the Funnel events based on different criteria. It helps you get granular insights by filtering data based on user attributes such as browser, city, country, OS, and more.
For example, for a particular Funnel event (Flow or User Action), refine the results to show data only for those who interacted with the Funnel event from the Chrome browser or from a specific location.
For more information on the User Filters that can be added to Funnels, see User Filters in Insights.
- To exclude specific filter values for which you don't require data, see How can I exclude filter values in Product Analytics?
- By default, the Product analytics data may contain identified (users identified by User ID) and unidentified (users not identified but denoted by cookie values) users. To filter unidentified users for clearer data, see How can I filter unidentified users in Product Analytics?
Time taken to complete the funnel
With Select completion time, create a Productivity Funnel and filter your users based on the time they take to complete the Funnel steps. It considers the fastest time taken between each Funnel step per user, averaged across all users. This can help you understand,
- The number of users completing a process within the expected time or the shortest time possible
- The points of friction in the process that is preventing users from completing a process within the expected time
Users can be filtered based on the number of days, hours, or minutes they take to complete the Funnel. For example, filter users who complete a process in less than an hour.
The completion time filter is applied to all the steps in a Funnel.
Steps to create a Funnel
The following are the two types of Funnels:
- Conversion Funnel
- Productivity Funnel
For more information on the Funnel types, see What are Funnels?.
Use the following steps to create a Funnel:
- On the Whatfix Analytics dashboard, click Insights.
-
Click Create insights.
-
Click Funnel Insights.
-
Click the Edit icon to name your Funnel.
-
Enter a Description that helps explain what the Funnel is about.
- The Description gives you context about the created Insight when added to a Dashboard.
- It also enables other stakeholders to understand what data the Insight depicts while viewing Dashboards created by other team members.
- To add your Flows, Custom Events, and Page View, in the Add funnel steps section, click Add.
Here's a GIF that shows you how to add steps to your Funnel.
- Add up to 50 events to a Funnel.
- Ensure that the User Actions represent a sequential process or a task. The User Actions must be selected in the same sequence.
- It is not mandatory to add the Trigger Location for your Flows.
- In the User filter section, click Add user filter, and then select the filter that you want.
-
Go to the Time taken to complete the funnel section, and then click Select completion time.
-
In the dialog box, select your time condition, and then click Apply.
- A Funnel becomes a Productivity Funnel when you add the completion time.
- The Funnel can be filtered only with the Less than condition.
- Click Save.
Once you delete a User Action or a Flow from the Dashboard, it is removed from the Funnel as well.
