Gestures help end users navigate through your app. They help them interact with your app through various finger movements.
You can create and configure your Gesture using the following steps,
- Step 1: Create a Gesture project
- Step 2: Connect your mobile app and capture the app screen
- Step 3: Identify the screen
- Step 4: Design the Gesture
Step 1: Create a Gesture project
On the Whatfix Mobile Dashboard, select the App on which you want to create a Gesture project.
To create a new project, click New.
Under the Nudges section, click Gestures.
Enter a name for your project.
Enter the App Version or select the App Version using the dropdown.
- Use the latest version of your app to create Whatfix Mobile content. For more information on app version, see What is an App Version?.
- Ensure that you add the correct app version from the app build that is integrated with the Whatfix Mobile SDK.
- Click Create.
Your Gesture project gets created and you are redirected to the Whatfix Mobile Studio.
Step 2: Connect your mobile app and capture the app screen
You need to connect your mobile app to the Whatfix Mobile Studio before you can start creating your in-app experience. This can be done by scanning the QR code available on the Whatfix Mobile Studio using your mobile app integrated to Whatfix Mobile.
Open your app integrated to Whatfix Mobile on your mobile phone and then enable the Creator mode.
Navigate to the Whatfix Mobile Studio on your browser and scan the QR code using your mobile app.
- You can see the notification on your phone that your app is connected to the Gestures project.
- You can navigate to any screen on your mobile app on which you want to create your Gestures.
- To capture the screen on which you want to create your Gestures, click Capture.
Step 3: Identify the screen
After capturing the screen, you need to identify the unique elements on the screen and tag the screen so that the in-app experience you create appears on the right page.
To identify the unique elements on the screen to tag the right screen, click Add Identifier.
Click the desired element on the page.
Example: If you want to show any Gesture on the Home screen, you can choose the title Home, which can uniquely identify the screen and show the Gesture on the correct screen. Click Add More to select more elements on the page and then repeat step 2.
Step 4: Design the Gesture
You can choose a template for your Gesture and select the element upon which you want to place the Gesture. Once the Gesture is set to appear on the element you want, you can configure how you want the Gesture to appear.
Use the following steps to design your Gesture,
On the Whatfix Mobile Studio, navigate to the left and select Design.
Choose a template for your Gesture.
You can choose any of the following Gesture templates,
- Gesture for clicking the element
- Gesture for sliding to the left
- Gesture for sliding to the right
- Gesture for scrolling up
- Gesture for scrolling down
To target the element on which you want to place your Gesture, click Identify Screen.
Select the desired element on the screen.
Click Confirm.
The Gesture appears on the element you choose.
To place your Gesture elsewhere, click Change.
To show the in-app experience in the language of your choice, navigate to the LANGUAGE SUPPORT section, and select the language using the dropdown.
Configure AUTO DISMISS if you want to dismiss an element automatically after an interval. You can also configure the TRIGGER EVENT and ELEMENT TERMINATION events.
AUTO DISMISS: Enabling the AUTO DISMISS toggle helps you to automatically dismiss the Gesture without your end user's intervention after a delay of a few seconds which you can set.
ELEMENT TRIGGER: You can set the following conditions to trigger the Gesture,
Screen detection - instant makes the Gesture appear instantly on the app's screen as soon as the user navigates to that screen
Screen detection - After delay makes the Gesture appear on the app's screen after a delay. You can set the delay in seconds
ELEMENT TERMINATION: You can set the following conditions to terminate the Gesture,
Never: When you set this condition, the Gesture shows up every time your user opens the app and navigates to the particular app screen
After 'n' sessions: When you set this condition, you can make the Gesture disappear from the app's screen after your end user has closed the app, opened it, and then navigated to the particular app screen for a set number of times. You can set the number of sessions after which the Gesture must stop appearing.
A session is defined as every time your end user closes the app and opens it again.
The Gesture you create is automatically saved. You can preview projects on your device before making it live for your end users. After creating and designing the Gesture, click Publish to make the Gesture live for your end users. For more information on publishing Whatfix Mobile content, see Publish Whatfix Mobile content
