Q4 2023 Release
Last updated: January 10, 2024
Group Default and Custom events (Event grouping)
What is new?
Currently, if you want to understand the effectiveness of Self Help, you'd have to add all the required events, such as Flow started, Article viewed, and so on, in Trend Insights and view the data in the form of charts. You don't get to see a final result that shows the number of users who performed the combination of events.
To help you analyze a combination of events, Product Analytics introduces Event grouping, which enables you to group two or more Default (Whatfix-related events, such as Flow started, Pop-up shown) or Custom events (User Actions and events captured using API) into a single grouped-event. The events are grouped together with an OR condition, which means that it shows the total number of users who performed any of the events added as part of a group in the last 30 days.
Why does it matter to me?
It's not possible to recreate Guidance analytics metrics such as the effectiveness of Self Help in Trend Insights and analyze data for processes that can be completed either using Whatfix help content or User Actions. With Event grouping, you can now group both Default events and Custom events to analyze the above-mentioned metrics and much more. This reduces the time and effort taken to create an Insight and manually calculate the number of users who performed a combination of events.
How do I do this?
Event grouping does not require any additional configuration and is available for all Product Analytics customers. For more information, see Group Default and Custom events.
Improved Survey creation experience Change in UI: User Actions is now part of Events
What has changed?
The user interface for Survey creation has been improved, and it comes with new functionalities.
Duplicate a Survey question: The copy functionality enables you to duplicate the question with a single click.
Rich text editor: The Whatfix rich text editor enables you to format Survey questions using multiple options. It also helps link multimedia content.
Why does it matter to me?
There may be instances where you may need minor changes to an existing survey question. Previously, you had to manually create a new question. Now, you can save time by using the copy function.
The Rich text editor functionality during Survey creation enables you to format text and change the way a question is presented to your users, making it more visually appealing.
How do I do this?
No additional configuration is required to enable this functionality. For more information, see Copy a Survey question.
Change in UI: User Actions is now part of Events
What has changed?
User Actions in the navigation panel is now replaced with Events. The Events section contains User Actions and Event groups.
Why does it matter to me?
The change in design aims to unify User Actions (Custom events) and Whatfix-related events (Default events) under one umbrella, Events. When you go to the Events section, you'll find a comprehensive view of both User Actions and Event groups.
How do I do this?
No additional configuration is required. It is available on the Whatfix dashboard for all customers.
Whatfix Comments
What is new?
Whatfix Comments introduces a collaborative edge to your workflow by providing a platform for seamless communication directly on the Whatfix Dashboard and across web applications.
Why does it matter to me?
Whatfix Comments enables you to streamline collaboration. No more scattered communications or switching between applications. You can engage effortlessly with colleagues, share insights, and provide feedback directly on any application, boosting efficiency and team cohesion.
How do I do this?
To install Whatfix Comments, download the extension. For more information, see Whatfix Comments.
Translate content using XLIFF files
What is new?
Whatfix now supports the translation of all Whatfix content using the XLIFF 2.0 standard. XLIFF is a standard format for translation, widely adopted by translation tools and agencies.
Why does it matter to me?
XLIFF files maintain a well-defined structure and consolidate both the original text and its translations into a single file. This simplifies the data processing for translation tools and facilitates collaboration among translators.
How do I do this?
The XLIFF format of translation is available on all accounts by default. For more information, see Use XLIFF files for translation.
Pop-up Visual Editor
What is new?
The Pop-up Visual Editor enables you to design and customize Whatfix Pop-ups easily, eliminating the need for JSX code editing. With the Drag-and-Drop feature, content creators can resize Pop-ups, add or delete components, and add customizations directly in the UI.
Why does it matter to me?
Earlier, content creators faced many challenges while editing Pop-ups as advanced customizations required knowledge of JSX code. This often led to dependency on Whatfix support or support pages for creating desired content. With the Pop-up Visual Editor, you can customize Pop-ups through a user-friendly Drag and Drop interface, eliminating the need for manual code edits.
How do I do this?
For more information on creating and editing a Pop-up using the Visual Editor, see

Exclude filters in Product Analytics
What is new?
Whatfix enables you to exclude specific filter values while analyzing data in Trends, Funnels, User Journeys, and Dashboards. Removing or excluding a filter helps you minimize noise from irrelevant information and focus only on the data that is required for analysis.
Why does it matter to me?
Sometimes, you may want to visualize only specific data with certain filter values. For example, you may want to visualize data from all countries except two countries. Without the exclude option, you have to manually select all the filter values and then deselect the values that you don't want to include in your analysis. This can be time-consuming and cumbersome. With the new capability to exclude filters, you can now select the Does not equal to condition and choose the filter values that you don't require for your analysis. This helps you focus only on the required data and fine-tune your results.
How do I do this?
For more information, see How can I exclude values from User Filters?
Copy Insights
What is new?
You can now copy existing Trend and Funnel Insights and User Journey and visualize these Insights with updated parameters.
Why does it matter to me?
You may need to create reports with the same events but for different geographies, departments, etc. Using the copy feature, you can now easily copy existing Insights to include your new changes and also save an existing Insight as a new Insight while editing.
How do I do this?
For more information, see
Conditional Survey branching
What is new?
Whatfix enables users to add conditions to their Survey questions, making Surveys more concise and clear. This means that users can create Surveys that are tailored to the specific needs of their audience and collect more accurate and relevant data.
Conditions can be used to display different follow-up questions based on the user's response. For example, if you ask a user whether they are experiencing difficulty with a specific function of your product and they respond "yes," you can display a follow-up question asking them to describe the problem in further detail.
Why does it matter to me?
Based on your end users' responses to one question, you can now decide which question should appear next using conditions. Depending on your use case, you can have different conditions for different questions.
How do I do this?
For more information, see
Understand the Question Types and Conditions of Survey
Get Qualitative analysis summary for Surveys
What is new?
Whatfix's Qualitative analysis summary is an AI-generated report for Surveys based on end user responses. The AI generates positive and negative viewpoints after analyzing the Survey data.
Why does it matter to me?
Manually analyzing Survey data could take a long time. Organizations may find it cumbersome to categorize positive and negative feedback from Surveys and group it based on similarities. Using the Qualitative analysis summary feature, you can view a summary report that includes both positive and negative viewpoints based on the responses submitted by your end users.
How do I do this?
For more information, see Get Qualitative analysis summary for Surveys.
Enable/Disable the Developer Mode to test Whatfix content
What is new?
The Whatfix Developer extension can now coexist on the same browser/application as the Production extension and can be enabled or disabled easily.
Why does it matter to me?
Earlier, for content creators who had both extensions installed, previewing content through the Developer extension had to be done through the incognito mode since both extensions could not coexist in the same environment.
Now, however, the Developer Mode can be enabled or disabled easily, creating a more streamlined and user-friendly experience for content creators who want to test their content.
How do I do this?
For more information about the Developer Mode, see Use the Developer Mode to test Whatfix content.
Content Archival
What is new?
You can now move your unused and outdated content and widgets to the Archived section of the Dashboard. Previously, you had to keep such content and widgets in the Draft stage, which made it difficult to track relevant content. When the maximum number of widgets was reached on the Dashboard, you had to delete old content and that made it irretrievable. With Content Archival, you can move extra content and widgets to the Archived section, and restore them from the Archived section to the Draft stage whenever required.
Why does it matter to me?
Archiving content helps declutter the Dashboard and makes it easier for content creators to find relevant and up-to-date information. When you reach the maximum number of widgets on the Dashboard, you can archive your old widgets instead of deleting them. Archiving content and widgets ensures that you can restore them - an option that is not available when you delete them.
How do I do this?
For more information about Content Archival, see Content Archival and the FAQs for Content Archival.
Compare Funnels
What is new?
You can compare a Funnel across different time ranges to understand if product interventions made to improve the end-user experience has been effective.
Why does it matter to me?
Funnels help you understand how end users are progressing through a defined path in your application. This Insight helps you reduce friction in your application and improve the end-user experience. After making changes to improve your end users' flow in the application using this Insight, you may want to understand the ROI of Whatfix Digital Adoption Platform (DAP) or product interventions. With Funnel comparison, you can compare Funnel data before and after the changes are made and find out if the changes you've made are helping your end users complete a process effectively.
How do I do this?
For more information, see Compare Funnels.
Internationalization - Change language of the Whatfix platform
What is new?
As the Whatfix customer base grows globally, we want to provide our non-English speaking customers with a better user experience by enabling them to interact with the Whatfix platform in their preferred language.
Whatfix now supports Internationalization, which enables you to change the language of your Whatfix Dashboard. Content creators can experience content creation and management processes in German and English.
Why does it matter to me?
Improves the user experience for German content creators as they can now understand and navigate Whatfix easily.
How do I do this?
For more information, see Internationalization - change the language of the Dashboard.

CLM Support for Analytics
What has changed?
Previously, it was not possible to filter and determine the specific stage to which content belongs, hindering accurate insights. The impact of content updates in one stage can impact the analysis of content in other stages. This further complicates the analysis process.
With the CLM Support for Analytics feature, Whatfix now enables you with the ability to filter analytics data based on stages so you can effectively examine and analyze data collected from each different stage.
Why does it matter to me?
The CLM-based filtering feature applies to all analytics dashboards, empowering you to gain valuable insights specific to each stage. You can filter data as per your requirements andoptimize your content management strategies accordingly.
How do I do this?
For more information, see Get Analytics Data across CLM Stages.
User Action Verification
What is new?
Have you ever wanted to understand if you've configured User Actions correctly on the application, if they have latched to the correct element or if there is already a User Action on the element? Whatfix's Product Analytics introduces User Action Verification that enables you to view and verify all the User Actions created on a page.
Why does it matter to me?
If User Actions are not created correctly, the data that you collect could be inaccurate. Currently, the only way to check if User Actions are working is by creating an Insight, which can be cumbersome. The Verification experience provides content creators the ability to validate User Actions contextually on the application where they're created and identify and fix any problems in real time. This improves the overall quality of the Analytics data generated for User Actions.
How do I do this?
For more information, see What is User Action Verification?
QuickRead - Summarized Answers in Self Help
What is new?
QuickRead is an AI capability powered by Whatfix that provides summarized answers to users' search queries within the Self Help widget. QuickRead uses Large Language Models (LLMs) on Whatfix content and aggregated content to generate responses to end users' queries. The responses provided by QuickRead include links, called References, that direct you to the source of information, wherever possible. End users can provide feedback by giving a thumbs up or a thumbs down based on the relevance of the response.
Why does it matter to me?
QuickRead provides several benefits for both Whatfix content creators and end users. QuickRead enables users of Whatfix to improve the quality of their content based on end-user feedback. It increases end-user adoption by providing relevant and concise answers to the end users' queries. The end users' search time is significantly reduced, improving their productivity.
How do I use this?
For more information, see QuickRead - Summarized Answers in Self Help.
Copy from Production
What has changed?
Previously, you could not copy content or widgets that are in the Production stage. Whatfix now enables you to copy content and widgets that are in the Production stage without having to move the content or widget out of the Production stage first. The copied content or widget is saved in the Draft stage of your Dashboard.
Why does it matter to me?
With the ability to copy content and widgets from Production, you no longer have the hassle of moving published content out of the Production stage and then moving it back.
How do I use this?
For more information, see Create a copy of Whatfix content or widgets.
Embed option in all the stages
What has changed?
Previously, the Embed option for Flows was only available in the Production stage. Only when you push a Flow to Production, you could embed it as a Slideshow, Live Tour, Video, etc.
With this release, the Embed option is available in all the stages. You can now embed Flows that are in the Draft and Ready stages.
Why does it matter to me?
In some cases, you may want to embed a Flow and test it before it is live. This is now possible with the embed option being available in the Draft and Ready stages. It enables you to add a Flow as a slideshow, article, or video even if the Flow is not in the Production stage.
How do I use this?
For more information, see Embed a Flow as Slideshow.
Verify Test Cases in Auto Testing
What has changed?
Previously, the Verify Test Cases feature replicated the workflow of the Flow as seen by the end user and ensured that the test case ran as expected without any failure or breakage. If the verification failed, you had to return to the test case and implement the necessary changes to successfully run the verification.
With the improved Verify Test Cases feature, Whatfix now gives you a studio view of the test case while verifying test cases. Verify Test cases enables you to check the verification status of each step, pause the verification process if there is a step failure, edit the test case, add input steps, and continue verification from the point at which it was paused.
Why does it matter to me?
The real-time view of this feature saves you time and effort as you can now detect, visualize, and rectify the problem in the test case during the testing phase. You can then re-verify from the first step to check for completion or continue verification from the point at which changes were made.
How do I do this?
For more information, see Verify a Test Case.
New Survey template - Create Quiz
What has changed?
Previously content creators could create NPS and Usability surveys. With this release, Whatfix gives you the ability to create a Quiz where you can ask your end users a list of questions. End users can choose to see the right answers once they have answered all the questions.
Why does it matter to me?
Use the Quiz feature to check the end user's knowledge and identify knowledge gaps. Based on the insights collected from the quiz, content creators can create DAP content to bridge the knowledge gap. Use Quizzes to teach, train, build, and test knowledge.
How do I do this?
For more information, see Create a Quiz.
Survey Templates under Pop-up - deprecated
What has changed?
Survey's are now a stand-alone feature. This means that you no longer need to use the survey templates in Pop-ups. These templates are now being removed.
Why does it matter to me?
You can now create Usability and NPS surveys right from the Studio and don't need to go through additional navigation to get to the templates in Pop ups. You can also view the Analytics for the Survey on the Dashboard.
How do I do this?
Usability and NPS surveys are available by default. For more information on how to use them, see Create a Usability Survey.

Self Help Widget behavior in Open State
Whatfix now retains the results of prior search queries in Self Help so that your end users can quickly Go to the content without having to search the phrase again.
This is how the Self Help widget behaves in the following scenarios,
When the content from the Self Help widget opens in another tab, the Self Help widget does not collapse and retains its open state. This means that when end users consume the content that opens in another tab and returns to the previous tab, they find the Self Help widget open.
When end users have typed out feedback but do not send it, the feedback they typed is retained until they discard it or clear the browser cache. When a feedback is sent by the end user, and the Self Help widget is opened again, the feedback section that was last accessed by your end user is retained.
While using the ChatBot in Self Help, a message that is not sent by your end user is retained until the chat session times out. Similarly, even if a ChatBot session is completed, the Self Help widget opens the chat box if that was the last section accessed by your end users.
With this latest capability, the Self Help widget remembers where the user was and takes them to that content or section on the Self Help widget.
The Self Help open state search queries are cleared if end users click the Close icon on the search bar or if they clear the browser cache.
Publish Themes and Configurations independently
Whatfix enables you to publish changes like global themes and configurations, User Actions, and other account-level changes, etc. without having to push any content/widgets to production along with them.
For more information, see Should I do a Push to Production for any content changes?
